Matthew Masters is an experienced pension scheme actuary who has advised a range of pension scheme clients and their sponsors on actuarial and investment matters. Having an appreciation of trustees’ and sponsors’ objectives and concerns means that Matthew is well placed to provide practical and pragmatic advice that is acceptable to all parties.
Matthew is passionate about helping people understand what is really important; and conveying advice in ways that are easy to understand, as well as ensuring that it stands up to the ‘common sense’ test. A natural planner, he is a firm believer in taking personal responsibility and doing everything with excellence and integrity.
Matthew entered the pensions industry in 1996 and became a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in 2003. He has since worked for two major benefit consultancies, holding senior roles in both actuarial consulting and management positions.
Matthew has undertaken the role of Scheme Actuary to a number of pension schemes, typically with assets of between £20 million and £500 million. In addition to advising on all aspects of pension scheme funding, including the management and removal of pension scheme risk, he has experience of putting in place asset backed funding arrangements, dealing with joint ventures and scheme mergers, and calculating s75 debts in multi-employer arrangements. As Corporate Actuary, Matthew helped develop clients’ pensions strategy, managing and reducing risks in line with their strategic goals.
Matthew has also been Managing Director of a small pensions advisory and Independent Trustee firm.
